VCWT Food & Wine Challenge Update

Last night we participated in our second Ventura County Wine Trail Food and Wine Challenge. This is one of our favorite events as it allows us to partner with a fabulous, local restaurant to create a food-wine pairing to die for! It's also easy on us because we only need to pour and describe one wine. This year we were randomly paired with the Aloha Steakhouse. Massachusetts Residents Can Now Have Wine Shipped To Them Direct-to-Consumer Wine Shipping Laws One of the many laws that became effective Jan. 1, 2015 include a direct-to-consumer wine shipping law which allows wineries in the U.S. to ship up to 12 cases of wine directly to individual consumers in Massachusetts. Happy New Year Massachusetts! Unfortunately, each winery will have to pay a $300 initial fee for a direct shipper’s license and an additional $150 renewal fee each year afterwards. While a great leap forward for consumers, this additional fees also include reporting requirements which means additional costs for wineries and ultimately consumers. TEMPRANILLO - WOM for January

JANUARY'S WINE OF THE MONTH Tempranillo is used in some of the great wines of Spain. If you've ever had a Spanish Rioja or a Ribera del Duero, then you've tried Tempranillo. There's a lot to love about Tempranillo. It's a medium to full-bodied wine that shows flavors of cherry, plum, leather, tabacco, earth spice, vanilla. With low acidity with firm tannins you can store it for many years. Tempranillo is very food friendly.
